OKC March Snow 09 - Video Compilation

Video Taken: March 27-28 2009
Shot By: Zack Allen
Location: Moore, OK

A post winter snow storm slammed much of the southern and central plains with heavy snow and high winds creating a rare once in a life time blizzard over far northwestern Oklahoma. While this video unfortunately doesn't depict the conditions in that part of the state, it does show what happened here in the OKC area around Moore. Central Oklahoma didn't get nearly as much snow as people in NW parts of the state did with less than an inch or two of accumulation thanks to unexpected shifts in track and changes within the system that brought a dry slot into the central and southern portions of the state.

Video Taken: February 10, 2009
Shot By: Cara Bombardiere
Location: NW Oklahoma City, OK

Part 2 of the MASSIVE wall cloud over NW Oklahoma city on this date. Courtesy of Cara Bombardiere shot via her cell phone.

-Summary of event-
Abnormally warm and moist "springlike" weather led to a significant severe weather outbreak in the southern plains on this date with numerous reports of hail, wind, and tornadoes. Several tornadoes touched down over the central one third of Oklahoma with several damaging ones touching down over NW Oklahoma City, and a deadly tornado that evening over Lone Grove, Oklahoma. Cara Bombardiere happened to be out and about that afternoon and experienced several training supercells over her location in Yukon, OK. On her way back home from running errings she saw the huge and photogenic wall cloud over NW OKC. This is a short video she took via her cellphone looking to the NW at the storm as they were heading back home.

Ice Storm 2009 - Video Compilation

Video Taken: January 26-27 2009
Shot By: Zack Allen
Location: Moore, OK

After months of boring weather and little to no snow, a winter storm hammers the southern plains January 26 - 27, 2009. The storm brought a mixed bag of freezing rain, sleet, and snow in which turned roads into ice rinks and forced the closings of hundreds of schools. Higher impacts were felt across eastern Oklahoma where the predominant precip type was freezing rain bringing down trees and powerlines with thousands without power. In this video you will see me giving you live video updates from central Oklahoma during the duration of the Winter Storm showing the transition from freezing rain to hefty amounts of sleet!

Well, it may have not been a white christmas, but it waited till after christmas to snow! A small and vigorous system raced across the state on this date, dumping over 6" of snow in some areas in a 1-2 hour time span! After the storm the snow quickly melted away with the warm ground temperatures. In this video you will see me giving you a view of a beautiful winter wonderland!

Apocalyptic Ice storm!

Video Taken: December 11, 2008
Shot by: Zack Allen
Location: S. Oklahoma City, OK

A Dangerous and apocalyptic Ice storm crippled much of the southern plains on this date with thousands without power, and millions of dollars in tree and property damage. In this video you will see RAW footage of the aftermath of this terrible storm. The Ice storm left much of Oklahoma looking like a warzone with 80 percent of all the trees in the state damaged or completely destroyed. It was a storm I will never forget, and I hope we don't have to go through another tragic event again.

Video taken: August 30, 2008
Shot By: Zack and Noah Allen
Location: Moore, Oklahoma

While August 30, 2008 wasn't a significant severe day, several complexes of thunderstorms developed along numerous outflow boundaries across the state. Later that evening, we noticed tcu along a outflow boundary pushing to the south of my area. Thunderstorms exploded along the boundary and tracked north and east over my region. Some of the storms became briefly severe with 60mph winds and small hail. The storms also displayed a awesome but frightening lightning display and produced torrents of rain(over an inch an our!). In this video you will watch as me and my bro videotape some close CG's(or Cloud to Ground lightning strikes) and get pummeled by howling winds and torrential rains.

Video taken: May 1, 2008
Shot by: Zack Allen
Location: S. Oklahoma City, OK

A couple of discrete supercells developed along a bulging dry line late in the afternoon/early evening of May 1 2008. The first one rapidly developed near Blanchard and the other near El-Reno. The Blanchard storm rapidly organized and headed in my direction. At around 6:30pm the storm began to approach from the SW and eventually pounded my neighborhood with hail ranging from quarter size to perhaps as big as golf balls. Shortly after the video was taken the storm became tornado warned spawning several brief tornadoes near the town of Choctaw, OK. It was a rewarding finish to a long day of EOI tests at school!

*note: the video is a little shaky and I got a little "overexcited". this was the first time I had experienced more importantly videotaped hail that big.*
